Foods you can't just eat one of

So, one of the neighbor kids is a Girl Scout, and, as most of you probably know by now, it's that time of year again. Girl Scout cookies. (sigh) These are truly evil. Why? Because you can't eat just one. No. You can vow that you'll eat just one, but you know it won't happen. No sooner do you open that bag than the entire thing is gone. (sigh) And that is what happened just a few minutes ago. It did. I did. I ate half a box of Do-si-dos in under 5 minutes. In the immortal words of Daffy Duck, "Mine! Mine! All mine!" Or if you are more of a Lord of the Rings fan, "My precioussss!"

It's unfair that they make them this good. Truly. But they aren't the only food like this. No, there are other foods that take over, possess my brain, and make my hand move from bag/tray/plate to mouth, and there is nothing I can do to stop it from happening, short of chopping off my arms, tying myself up (that could be interesting with the right person--oh, that's a different blog post entirely), or sewing my mouth shut. Not all of them are evil. Some of them are good for you, but most of them aren't. These are my top ten "can't stop at one" foods:

  1. Roasted peanuts in a shell. There is something about shelling the peanuts and eating them that is very addictive.
  2. Potato chips, but only if it's with sour cream and onion dip.
  3. Squirt cheese on Ritz crackers or Triskets (sounds disgusting, but God it's good!)
  4. Girl Scout Do-si-dos
  5. Home made cookies/brownies--just about any kind that isn't out of a box, but particularly oatmeal raisin with walnuts. This is why I rarely bake.
  6. Ripe, juicy watermelon on a hot day.
  7. A good rib-eye steak cooked to medium rare--if someone gave me only one bite of this and there was more, they may not survive long. (g)
  8. Bruschetta from Novecento. This is a local Italian restaurant that makes the best bruschetta. It has fresh basil, raw garlic, tomatoes, and Mont Chevre goat cheese on buttered, grilled bread. It's decadent. Truly, one slice is not enough.
  9. A ripe peach where the juice dribbles down your chin when you bite into it.
  10. Chocolate. Can there ever be too much chocolate?

So, what's on your "can't eat just one" list? Do you share any of mine?

OMG, and I just ate a bowl of roasted peanuts in the shell for lunch. LOL very well-rounded meal. :)

I like Grasshoppers, which are those Keebler cookies very similar to Girl Scout Thin Mints. I kept posting on my Facebook page about eating yummy grasshoppers and everyone thought I was eating bugs. LOL I'm addicted to Grasshoppers, and yes, you can't eat just one.

Did you hear about that woman who ended up in jail after she beat up her roommate who ate her Girl Scout Thin Mints? That's some serious cookie addiction and I can relate. NO ONE touches my Grasshoppers without my permission!

HAHAHAHAHA--See, Elizabeth, I told you shelled peanuts are addictive. (g)

No, I didn't. I don't think I would beat up anyone over that, but I was pretty angry when an ex-roommate ate my Ben & Jerry's. (Notice how I say "ex-roommate.") When I confronted him about it, he gave me $5 and said, "Here, buy another pint." Yeah, no. You drag your ass down to the store and replace it, asshole. His excuse was that it had been in the freezer for a couple of weeks. How could I expect him to not eat it? Um, not my problem. You want some? Go buy some. (g)

Yeah, I'm obviously still bitter over it. ;) Don't eat my ice cream!

I'm horrible...I can't get enough Molasses cookies. Homemade or store bought, doesn't matter to me. I'm also bad for eating pretzel sticks. Not regular pretzels, they have to be in stick form. Weird, I know. Oh, and fried wontons...

And Elizabeth, I now know your secret! I really thought you were eating chocolate covered grasshoppers! Some people actually do eat those...lol.

My food spells are all about Girl Scout Thin Mints...Honestly they would be trying me for murder if someone ate all mine. LOL I also can't get enough of salt n pepper kettle cooked potato chips. One bite, then I go into a trance and the next thing I know, the bag is gone. I also have a serious problem with chocolate covered pretzels. Oh how love this post. I don't feel alone. :)

Well, Rhiannon, I just finished my sandwich and am eying those Girl Scout cookies again. Since it's just me and the cats, the cookies are doomed to consumption. (g)

You are definitely not alone, Melissa. While I am not a Thin Mint fan, I do not think this box of Tagalongs is going to last beyond one sitting. Evil, evil cookies!

BTW, did you all know that a serving of a Girl Scout cookie is two?

Yeah, we know a serving is really like 10.

Thin Mints baby! Our cookies arrived today and before the ink was dry on the check, the dau had opened one box, taken one roll out, and handed me the other one. Cookies were consumed before the parent left!

Also, chocolate covered pretzels....chex mix....Hershey Milk Chocolate Bliss....yeah, I'm a chocoholic!

Cheesy garlic bread is another.

Oh, Sarah, I love filberts (aka hazelnuts). There is something about sitting by a fire, cracking them open, and eating them that is very addictive. (g) I can do that for hours. To stop, I have to physically remove myself from the area. LOL

Mine are these Slim Jim things... See, they're not really Slim Jims, but they're an off brand you can get at our local discount grocery store. They come in a vacuum sealed pkg and they're in all sizes of chunks. OMG, they are soooooo good with mozzarella cheese too!
