Don't Change!

I don’t know about you, but most times I dislike change. Don’t get me wrong, because if I suddenly got a million pounds, I wouldn’t mind that one bit. No, I’m talking about small things, like getting used to a new keyboard because your last one decided to type whatever the hell it fancied despite you pressing the correct keys. Or places like Photobucket and Wordpress changing the way they do things.

I use Photobucket and Wordpress a lot due to doing site revamps. I did not appreciate finding Wordpress had changed their way of adding links to text. I followed the onscreen instructions in their darling little boxes, only to find the links didn’t appear. Piss off #1. So I grumbled about people effing with things when they worked perfectly well before, and abandoned the link idea. I swore a lot that day, and Hubby no longer gives me sidelong glances when my monitor is called nasty names and I pull my hair in frustration.

The same day I used Photobucket, who had also decided to change their way of doing things. Piss off #2.

Just don’t, all right? It winds me the hell up when I’m used to doing things a certain way and then I have to retrain my brain to do it another way. It takes precious moments of my time learning the new stuff—usually adding a few more minutes to my tasks. I know it’s only minutes, but doing this several times a day adds up to many minutes, possibly a lost hour. That isn’t funny when there aren’t enough hours in the day for me as it is.

I like to get used to the idea of something changing before I’ll allow the change—unless I have no control over it. Like the microwave catching fire that time while cooking popcorn or the washing machine flooding the floor, silently screaming at me, “I told you I wasn’t feeling well. I told you you needed a new me, and you didn’t listen until I spewed my guts up all over your floor. And now you’re ranting about the mess I made, as though I hadn’t tried to tell you by making my drum clonk in the spin cycle and that one time I refused to drink the washing detergent from my little detergent drawer.”

(Ah, piss off!)

I like to know what I’m doing and when. I don’t dig surprises where I’m put on the spot and have to make a snap decision, although I do cope well when presented with such occurrences. I haven’t got OCD or anything, I just…am how I am.

Do you embrace change, long for it, even, or do you like the safer option of knowing what’s likely to be lurking around the corner? Do you prefer to pootle along, or are you more of a daredevil in that you hunger for the unexpected and live off the thrill when stuff happens out of the blue?

That groan everyone the world wide over heard was me when I read Photobucket made changes. Ohhh I hate that.

I'm so in agreement with you on those "little piss me off changes."

I still can't navigate WordPress worth a damn, so I stick to blogger.

Yahoo is always pulling a fast one. It's early in the morning, my peepers are barely open and there I am sitting wondering how the hell to log in to Yahoo. And where did the mail button go after I log in. Then just as I get comfortable -- Yahoo makes another improvement -- my ass it's an improvement.

And if I saw that message "upgrade to Internet Explorer 8 -- NOW" one more time, I was hiring a hit man.

I'm Google Chrome all the way, baby. IE can kiss my fanny.

Change isn't always a good thing.

See, Cassie, my hubby put Google Chrome on my puter for me and I just can't bring myself to use it. Change...

We have a new version of Photoshop, yet I'm resisting, preferring to stick to my ancient one LOL.

First of all, finding that beautiful graphic posted for my birthday made me teary eyed. Love you, my friend! I'm gonna copy it and put it on my desktop today.

My life is one of those lives where there seems to be constant change and many of them are big ones. I used to hate change, but now I just roll with the punches and pray I don't get too many bruises as a result.

I did laugh like crazy at (Ah, piss off!) You sound like me, lololol!

I love Google Chrome, btw! I use it all the time on my pc. However, note that there are some odd li'l things that won't work on Chrome. Jade has to shut Chrome down and use IE from time to time for her online schooling site. Certain tiny features like email on their system won't work on Chrome.

Emmy Ellis said...

Ah, Faith, I'm glad you liked. I saw the pic and thought of you. Hope you have a great day!

Chrome. Stop it. I WILL resist. Nope. No one's gonna make me go over to the other side.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FAITH!!!!!!!!!!!

Change is tough. I don't like it. I enjoy routines. Just like when I'm here alone all day and then there are days when someone is sick and home with me. The walls want to close in on me on those days. It's like I can't get anything done with them around. Even if they ARE sick and in their bedroom with the door closed and not even in sight. I KNOW they're there.

And the keyboard issue is just odd, really. I can't even type on the same exact keyboard on another computer. It doesn't feel right. Beats me. lol

Emmy Ellis said...

I'm getting used to this keyboard now, Tess, but it's noisy and the keys don't feel as soft. I'd worn the last ones down to a shine I'd typed so much hahaha. The T and W buttons didn't even have a T or W on them anymore.

I'm the same with people being home when they're not meant to be. I need my solitude.

Routines. Yes. I love them. Veer away from them, and I go NUTS!

I think I'm with you I hate change! I guess that's why I haven't dumped dick head husband! :)

Just think of it this way, it's life way of waking us up. Just when we are getting use to something she has to throw something at us to keep us on our toes. Or we all would be bored to tears.
Plus, it's what makes us women so strong, because MEN sure can't change they depend on us to do it for them.

Thank you for the bday wish, Tess!

And Sarah, I knew you'd laugh at Trin's dickhead hubby comment and then I found your comment below it where you did. I burst out laughing!

Hi ladies,
Okay, I like change, I admit it. In lots of things. But not in my software. I know that new can be improved, but why can't we do the old stuff the same way, get to the pages, the functions...then just add the new as well? When I work here, on my laptop, I'm busy writing, editing, blogging, reviewing...and I don't have time to look for a function that was just here last time I looked and is now completely in another spot. And the changes are so fast! And wordpress? I'm still learning it, so when it changes it undoes all that my little brain has figured out. Luckily I'm graphics challenges and only just know what photobucket is. Ugh. And please don't move things in my email program or I may never find them again! If there's a petition for stuff remaining the same, forward it to me, I just don't have time to learn new systems, I have 8 billion pages to edit before I sleep.

Happy happy birthday Faith!!

Chrome does have some issues, like keeping the cache clean, but I had more with IE. And I did give in and installed IE 8.

Emmy Ellis said...

Same here, Kate! Software must remain the damn same!

Happy Birthday Faith:)

I like Chrome on the laptop, and Mozilla Firefox on the desktop. The only time I use Chrome on the desktop is to upload photos to Facebook.

Yeah, it takes me a while to get used to change also. Some of it sucks, like the 'new and improved Walmart' (insert gagging noise), but changes to Word, Blogger, or websites...it takes me a while to get used to them. Makes me wonder why the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' mantra doesn't apply more often (all together now... VISTA!).

Maybe it's just because I'm getting older? I've learned if someone SHOWS me how to work a program, I do better than trying to figure it out on my own. And yeah, specific, written instructions help A LOT!

I'm not friends with Change. I will roll with them if need be depending on the change, but otherwise, No. I don't like them.

It's like "Life is hard enough. Why are you throwing things at me?"

I tried Chrome. Didn't like it...too much change. I'll stick with my Mozilla Firefox.

You should see me at the day job when UPS decides to re-vamp their site. Aaaaarrrrggghhh!

Faith Bicknell said...

Cassie and Molly---THANK YOU! :-)

Emmy Ellis said...

Molly...people who try and put things together or work something without reading the written instructions. ROAR!

Vista. Oh my. I was so glad to get rid of that and get Windows 7.

:o)

Emmy Ellis said...

Roar like a mad woman, Cassie! I find it helps a lot hahaha.

(I'm lying. Swearing loudly is more pleasing. The more obscene the better.)

You know, Emmy, what drives me nuts is when you go to your favorite grocery store and they've changed the layout. WTF! I finally learned where everything was and you have to go and switch it around on me.

I asked an employee once why this happens. Their response: "Oh, every time we get a new manager, they think it should be laid out this way as it 'makes more sense.'"

Let me give you a clue: It does not make any sense whatsoever to change something when it's working just fine. That idiot of a manager just added 15-20 minutes to my shopping because of their "brilliant" changes. I'd like to do some changing to that manager of my own. (g)

I couldn't have said it better myself. I hate change. I need a new computer, but I don't want to have to learn the new word program. I need new shoes, but the old ones are so comfy. I need a new matress, but the old one knows my body by heart. Gee, I guess that's why I've been married to the same man for 52 years.
Best,
Cat

Emmy Ellis said...

Ooooh, Marci, I forgot about that. Yes, ultra bugging. I asked about it too. It's a marketing ploy to make you search for what you want so your eye is drawn to other products while you search for yours. Sneaky shits.

:o)

Emmy Ellis said...

Ah, bless you, Cat. Very sweet!

Maeve Greyson said...

Happy Birthday, Faith! And when it comes to change? I SO agree with this post. My motto is: If it AIN'T broke? DON'T fix it!

Marci Baun said...

Oh, I know, Sarah, but it doesn't work with me. LOL It just pisses me off, and I look for what I want, skipping over the other crap. (g)

Emmy Ellis said...

Yay, Maeve! Another one for resisting change. WOOT!

:o)

Emmy Ellis said...

Same here, Marci. If I wanted the other crap, it'd be on my bloody list.

:o)

Dominique Eastwick said...

I think it's human nature to not want to change, I like some change and usually roll with them... But I laugh every time Facebook chages anything the things every one complains about this change will be the things they can't stand losing Next, LOL

Great blog

Emmy Ellis said...

Hahaha, Dominique. That's because they got used to the change. FUNNY! You're right too!

:o)

Marci Baun said...

That being said, I must say changing my clothes, especially underwear, is a daily necessity. (g)

Emmy Ellis said...

HAHAHAHAH! Oh, and wearing different perfume each day is ok too.

Happy Birthday, Faith!

Change. Depends. If it's things like you mention, Sarah, that are hard to adjust to, then...no. I don't like it.

Most of the time, though, after I'm used to it, I enjoy the change.

Miriam Newman said...

Challenge? No thanks. Give me constant old SAFE boredom any time. When I'm bored, I can write. That's my challenge. Leave my freakin' software alone!

Emmy Ellis said...

Similar for me, CZ. It's just the initial change, or thought of it, I don't like.

:o)

Emmy Ellis said...

Hahahah Miriam! Yep, I'm partial to my software staying as it is too!

:o)

Becca Dale said...

I like change just fine but not this kind of change. As funny as it was to read about it through your eyes, things like technology that doesn't work right when it has always worked before is so annoying! Thanks for the chuckle.

Emmy Ellis said...

Hiya Becca!

It is frustrating. I'm very vocal during these times. Very bad words are spoken, and I converse with the sites as though they are actually people.
