I think there's a special art to writing m/m without being icky. I say this because of an experience I had a couple of years ago with an m/m tale that made me sick--literally. I couldn't handle the graphic sex scene it contained, which included the mention of the smell of poo.
I don't know about you, but the mention of poo in a sex scene does nothing for me, though I appreciate some people get off on it.
However, the reason I wouldn't buy m/m is because of this reason. How can I be sure it doesn't involve poo or something equally as gross? There isn't any indication, except maybe a 'graphic content' warning, that may alert me to what's inside.
So, lucky me in that I've been able to select a couple of manlove tales to edit where I know they aren't all about the sex. Or number twos. To read a book about men who fall in love with one another, where the romance side of it prevails, and their relationship, the love they feel for one another, is paramount.
This may seem a blatant plug coming up, but it isn't. If you want an m/m for all the good reasons, read Breaking Faith by M. King. This book converted me. What a wonderful tale.
And, imagine my delight to find today while editing that Jaime Samms' Poor Boy is as excellent as Breaking Faith. A delightful love story. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I'm quite a fan of M.King and Jaime Samms' voices. They know how to tell a tale.

I'm one of Jaime's editors, so I know she writes wonderful m/m, but I haven't read any of M. King's yet. I'll have to change that, and knowing you as well as I do, Emmy, I'm confident that Breaking Faith is an awesome novel!

I've read many of M.J.'s excerpts and can say without a doubt, I'll be buying the book. It'll be the first M/M. Now I'll have to check out Jaimie's as well.
